Mission
The mission of Bio-Path’s organization is two-fold having:

Inside Focus… to identify promising new compounds to add to its pipeline and to achieve low cost, efficient development through Phase IIa clinical trials, and
-
External Focus… to form new strategic alliances that offer promising business potential and raise necessary capital.
Organization Structure
BioPath’s goal is to have a highly effective and resource efficient organization. Shortly after closing, the organization is planned to consist of a CEO/CFO, Vice President Corporate Development, a consultant performing Chief Scientific Officer duties, five Scientific Advisory Board Members, an oncologist/Medical Officer consultant to be added to the Scientific Advisory Board, and contract workers for regulatory and drug development requirements. Two additional persons are expected to be added to the financial function and program management within a year after completion of the Company’s first significant license transaction.
Expertise
The Scientific Advisory Board, the Chief Scientific Officer and Medical Officer together will develop the pre-clinical and clinical development plans through Phase IIa and select the new drug candidates, including non-antisense and siRNA candidates, to add to the pipeline. The Scientific Advisory Board is expected to be comprised of scientific founders and leaders in developing cancer therapeutics:
Gabriel Lopez-Berestein, M.D. – Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board and founder of Bio-Path; Professor of Medicine and Internist, Director, Cancer Therapeutics Discovery Program, Chief, Section of Immunobiology and Drug Carriers, M. D. Anderson. Has brought seven drugs from R&D into the clinic and has had two public companies previously formed from his research.
Anil Sood, M.D. – Professor, Gynecologic Oncology and a surgeon. Recently recognized as one of the most published and accomplished new scientists/clinicians at M. D. Anderson.
Other leading edge scientists and drug developers are expected to be added after additional funding is secured. In addition, the Chief Scientific Officer consultant and Medical Officer are planned to be added to the Scientific Advisory Board after the closing of the funding.
Management Background Information
Peter Nielsen is a co-founder of Bio-Path, serving as its President and Chief Executive Officer, and has been a director of the Company since its founding. He also currently serves as CFO until an additional person is added at a later date. Peter has developed a close working relationship over the last five years with key individuals at M. D. Anderson and suppliers of the Company’s lead drug product while coordinating pre-clinical and manufacturing development of Bio-Path’s lead product. He has also worked with several other biotech companies in a senior management capacity and as a Director, developing and executing on strategies for growth. Mr. Nielsen has a broad management background in senior management and has significant negotiating experience. He has engineering and MBA degrees from U.C. Berkeley.
Douglas P. Morris is a co-founder of Bio-Path serving as its Vice President of Corporate Development, Secretary and a Director. Since 1993, Mr. Morris has been an officer and director of Celtic Investment, Inc., a financial services company that owns Celtic Bank, an FDIC insured industrial loan company chartered under the laws of the State of Utah. Since 1990, Mr. Morris owns and operates Hyacinth Resources, LLC (“Hyacinth”), a privately held business consulting firm. Mr. Morris has recently formed Sycamore Ventures, LLC, a privately-held consulting firm. Mr. Morris has a BA from Brigham Young University and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
Gillian C. Ivers-Read is currently Executive Vice President, Development Operations since April 2002 for Pharmion Corp., a successful biotech company having a $2.9 billion market cap. From 1996 to 2001, Ms. Ivers-Read held various regulatory positions with Hoechst Marion Roussel and its successor Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where she most recently held the position of Vice President, Global Regulatory Affairs. From 1994 to 1996, Ms. Ivers-Read was Vice President, Development and Regulatory Affairs for Argus Pharmaceuticals and from 1984 to 1994 she served as a regulatory affairs director for Marion Merrell Dow. In addition to Board service, Ms. Ivers-Read will be a senior advisor to Bio-Path for drug development operations.
Dr. Thomas Garrison serves as a Director of the Company. He is a practicing medical doctor with over twenty years experience in the clinical medical field with extensive administration responsibilities. In addition to his professional medical career, he has been involved in a number of successful entrepreneurial pursuits, including Advanced Laser Clinics, Inc. – serving as Corporate Medical Director. He received his Doctor of Medicine / Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences / Bethesda, Maryland in 1982, and his Bachelor of Science; Chemistry Major, Engineering Minor from the University of Utah in 1978.
